Nextcloud as cheap open-source cloud companion

For 7 years now I have been using Nextcloud as an open source platform on a converted laptop. Nextcloud runs on the laptop under Ubuntu 20.0.4 with a hard disk raid of 2 HDDs and has a total of 1.5 TB of storage space. Google Drive currently charges 9.99€ per month or 99.99€ per year for 2TB. Consequently, I have already saved 700 € and learned a lot about cloud development and unix in general as well as about data storage.

In addition to any kind of files Nextcloud of course supports much more content which is also constantly expanded and improved by a very large online community. I also synchronize all my contacts, calendars, notes & tasks on all my devices. With the webdav protocol these can be accessed from anywhere in the world. I also use the automatic synchronization of all my smartphone camera pictures using the Nextcloud app.

All in all, I am very happy with Nextcloud as my main cloud service, since it makes me independent from big companies like Google and co. and I have all my data stored in one place.

Another really useful feature is the possibility of generating links to each file so other people can access the file, which has proven its value in numerous scenarios.
